Biography
Joanne qualified as a solicitor in Scotland in 2006 and was called to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Gibraltar in 2012. Whilst in private practice she represented many international clients, including top tier law firms and global accountancy networks, in contentious insolvency matters. She joined a Big 4 accounting firm in Gibraltar, where she gained her Insolvency Practitioner’s license, and thereafter relocated to an insolvency team in the United Arab Emirates. She returned to Gibraltar in 2020 and joined CVR Global (acquired by Begbies Traynor Group in 2021) as an Insolvency Practitioner.
Joanne specialises in contentious, cross border insolvency and has worked on several multimillion-pound frauds. Her work has ranged from liquidation of offshore funds to the embezzlement of client funds by an international law firm headquartered in Gibraltar.
She was involved in the first Cell Administration in Gibraltar of a Protected Cell Company, and the first insolvent liquidation of a Gibraltar incorporated cryptocurrency firm. She has assisted with various receiverships of investment vehicles and worked on high profile bankruptcies of individuals with multi-million pounds of personal debt.
She has particular expertise in litigation and litigation management, having obtained freezing injunctions and other interim relief as a practicing solicitor in her own right, and has instructed many international and offshore law firms to act in cases involving antecedent transactions, declaratory relief, claims against third parties and global asset recovery in EMEA, the Caribbean, Russia and the Channel Islands.
